Housewife Ethel Mitchell (Ann Doran) has heard rumors that local war veteran Jed Barlow (Steve Dunne) somehow disgraced himself while serving his country. But that doesn't stop her young son, Danny (Ted Donaldson), and his dog, Rusty, from befriending Jed. It's soon obvious to Danny that the rumors about his new friend are false.
