'Mad' Mike Hughes dies after crash-landing home-made rocket
A US daredevil has been killed, during an attempted launch of a homemade Rocket in the California desert, reports say.
"Mad" Mike Hughes , 64, crash-landed with his steam-powered Rocket shortly after takeoff in the vicinity of Barstow on Saturday.
A video on Social Media shows, a Rocket is fired into the sky, before plummeting to the ground in the vicinity.
Hughes was known for his belief that the earth was flat. He hoped to prove his theory by to the room.
on Saturday, was reportedly filmed as part of the home-made astronauts, a new TV series about an amateur Rocket -maker, aired on the US Science Channel . The Project had to be carried out are on a tight budget.
With The Help of his partner, Waldo stakes, Hughes had tried to reach an altitude of 5,000 ft (1,525 m) during the journey with the steam-powered Rocket ,
a parachute can be seen behind The Rocket , apparently provided too early, seconds after take-off.
In a tweet, the Science Channel , said Hughes had died, followed his dream.
San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department said that his officers were called to a Rocket launch-event-in at 14:00 local time (22:00 GMT) on Saturday.
The Sheriff's office said: "A Man was pronounced deceased after The Rocket crashed in the desert". The identity of The Man was not released.
But.
Darren Shuster, a former representative for Hughes, told TMZ was daredevil "one-of-a-kind".
"If God Mike, he broke the mold. The Man was the Real Deal , and lived to push The Edge . He would not have gone all the other way! RIP," he said.
The daredevil, lived in Apple Valley , made International headlines when he announced his intention to prove his theory that the earth was flat.
In March last year, Hughes managed a height of 1,870 ft (570m) in front of the parachutes and landing with a bump.
Speaking afterwards, Hughes said: "I Am glad that I made it? Yes, I think. I'm going to feel it in The Morning . I'm not going to get in the position to be out of bed. At least I can Go Home and have dinner and see how my cats Tonight . "
He set a Guinness World Record in 2002 for the longest limousine jump - about 31 meters (103 ft) in a Lincoln Town Car stretched limo.
