About Verdun
Verdun is a small city in northeast France, on the banks of the Meuse river. It's known as the site of the WWI Battle of Verdun. Verdun's battlefields are marked by museums and memorials, such as the Douaumont Ossuary, with the remains of more than 100,000 soldiers. Northwest of the city is the Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery. In the town, the huge Porte Chaussée gate was once part of the city's medieval walls.
