Sir Elton John has visited a Road renamed in his honour.

The Street to the side of Watford Football Club has been changed from Occupation Road to Yellow Brick Road - in a nod to The Singer 's 1973 album.

A fan group called for the name change after the musician, who previously owned The Club in the 1970s and 1980s, performed at the Vicarage Road stadium.

Sir Elton , who supported The Club since childhood, said he " fell in love with football" there.

He added: " As I've said many times before, Watford Football Club has done more for me in my lifetime than I ever did for it.

" Along with The Stand being named after me here at Vicarage Road , I feel very specially treated. And, even Coming Back here on a non-matchday, there's still a buzz for me because This Was where I fell in love with football and my club".

In 1973 Elton John released the single Goodbye Yellow Brick Road the same year he became president of Watford Football Club.

Fan group, The 1881 Movement, started a campaign for a name change Last Year after the 76-year-old's concerts at the Vicarage Road stadium.

Sir Elton , who is an honorary life-president at The Club , said: " Using 'Yellow Brick Road ' is a really fantastic, clever way for supporters to have played their part in recognising a time when I was here pretty much Every Day - on this amazing journey with Graham Taylor [Watford FC's manager at The Time ]. "

Current Hornets' chairman Scott Duxbury praised Sir Elton for his support for The Club .

He Said : " The Club 's owner, Gino Pozzo , and myself will forever be grateful that Elton's boyhood love for Watford continues to burn so brightly. "
