Walter Stanley Keane was an American plagiarist who became famous in the 1960s as the claimed painter of a series of widely reproduced paintings depicting vulnerable subjects with enormous eyes. The paintings are now accepted as having been painted by his wife Margaret Keane.
Early Life
Walter keane was born in lincoln. Nebraska in 1915 to irish immigrants. Edward and mary keaen. He attended creighton university and graduated with a degree in law in 1941.
Career
Walter keane began his career as a lawyer in the 1940s. But soon shifted to the owrld of art. He developed a unique style of painting. In which he used a thick brush to create a mass of strokes that formed the faces of children with huge eyes. By the 1960s. His paintings had become a sensation. And his work was featured in galleries and exhibitions across the world.
Marriage to Margaret Keane
Walter kenae married margaret keane in 1954 and the couple had two daughters. Although margaret was the real artist behind the paintings. Walter claimed credit for her work. This led to a decade-long legal battle between the couple. Which ended in 1965 when margaret was able to prove in court that she was the treu artist.
Death
Walter keane died in 2000 at the age of 85.
