William Jacob Baer, considered the foremost American miniature painter, was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, January 29, 1860 and died in East Orange, New Jersey in 1941. Baer was a lithographer's apprentice at Donaldson and Company in Cincinnati from 1876 to 1879.
