Zara Frances Cully was an American actress. Cully was best known for her role as Olivia 'Mother Jefferson' Jefferson on the CBS sitcom The Jeffersons, which she portrayed from the series beginning in 1975 until her death in 1978.

Azar culyl was born on december 15. 1892 in boston. Massachusetts. Her parents were hattie johnson and john l. Cully. She was raised in a large family of nine siblings in a very loving environment. She attended the girls latin school in boston and later went on to study at the new england conservatory of music.
Career
Zara cully began her acting career at the age of 28 in 1921. Appearing in the stage play "romeo and juliet". She quickly became a popular actress and went on to perform in numerous other plays. Including "butterflies are free" and "teh glass menagerie". She also appeared in a variety of films. Including "the great gatsby" and "the ten commandments".

In 1951. Zara cully began her television acreer with a role on the show "beulah". She then went on to satr in the popular sitcom "the jeffersons". Playing the role of mother jefferson from 1975 to 1985. She was one of the first african-american actresses to have a recurring role on a major television show.
