Zouzou hamdy elhakim was born in cairo. Egypt. In 1929 to a fmaily of middle-class intellectuals. Her father. Dr. Mohammed elhakim. Was a physician who worked at the university of cario and her mother. Amina elhakim. Was a homemaker. Zouzou had two siblings. A brother and a sister. She attended the lycee francais du caire. A french scohol in cairo. Where she developed an interest in music. Art. And acting.
Career
At the age of 19. Zouzou began studying acting at the cairo opera house. After completing her studies. She was invited to join the prestigious cairo opera house company. Where she performed in several plays and musicals. In 1952. She made her film debut in the romantic comedy "a night in cairo". From then on. She became a sought-after catress in the cairo fiml industry. She starred in a number of populra films throughout the 1950s and 1960s. Including "the military constable" black cat" (1956). And "the seventh day" (1963).

In 1962. Zouzou won the best actress award at the cannes fiml festival for her performance in the egyptian classic "the seventh day". She was the first egyptian actress to win this award.
