Awaji Island

Awaji Island in Japan's Seto Inland Sea is known for traditional puppet theater. The Awaji ningyō jōruri troupe performs at Awaji Doll Jōruri Pavilion in Minamiawaji city. Reconstructed hilltop Sumoto Castle overlooks Osaka Bay. Farther north, the Tadao Ando–designed Awaji Yumebutai complex is a Great Hanshin earthquake memorial with terraced flower beds. The Akashi-Kaikyō Bridge connects Awaji to the city of Kobe.
