Izumo
Izumo is a city on Japan's Honshu Island. It's known for Izumo-taisha, a sprawling Shinto shrine. The Shimane Museum of Ancient Izumo explores the site's history, which dates back to the 8th century. Nearby, the Former Taisha Station is a 1920s rail terminal built in the Imperial Crown Style. On the coast, Hinomisaki Lighthouse overlooks the Sea of Japan. South, Tachikue Gorge is home to scores of Buddhist statues.
