La Libertad Department
La Libertad is a department in the southwest of El Salvador. It's known for its Pacific coastline of sandy beaches and surf breaks, and its Mayan ruins. Just north of the departmental capital Santa Tecla, which serves as a suburb of the national capital San Salvador, towers the Volcán San Salvador. The volcano's roughly 1,800m-high summit and vast crater surrounded by pine forests make up El Boquerón National Park.
