Sophiatown
During the 1940s and 1950s, the Johannesburg suburb of Sophiatown is a vibrant and sizable racially mixed area at a time when apartheid is firmly entrenched in the nation. The neighborhood, with its wealth of jazz and blues clubs, becomes a center for political, artistic and criminal activity.
