4th arrondissement
The 4th arrondissement includes part of the fashionable Marais, known for its hip boutiques, galleries and gay bars. Once the city's Jewish quarter, a number of kosher restaurants remain. The grassy Place des Vosges is a small haven of tranquility. Tourists head to Centre Pompidou, a modern art museum with an eye-catching facade. Nearby, the Gothic Notre-Dame Cathedral dominates tiny tree-lined Île de la Cité.
