Santiago Metropolitan Region

The Santiago Metropolitan Region encompasses Chile's capital, Santiago, along with parts of the Andes Mountains and Chilean Coastal Range. Set within the Central Valley, Santiago is known for neoclassical architecture such as the 18th-century Metropolitan Cathedral, on Plaza de Armas in the colonial core. Vineyards of the Maipo Valley wine region lie outside the city. The Andes feature ski resorts like Valle Nevado.
