Tucumán

Tucumán, a small province in northwest Argentina, is split between the western Andes Mountains and eastern Gran Chaco lowlands. The capital, San Miguel de Tucumán, is considered the nation's birthplace. Its Casa Histórica de la Independencia museum is the spot where independence from Spain was declared in 1816. Tucumán also has archaeological sites like the Quilmes Ruins, a settlement dating to the 9th century.
