Alajuela Province
Alajuela, a province in northern Costa Rica, is home to active volcanoes, tropical rainforest and lowland swamps. Poás Volcano National Park is named after a massive stratovolcano. Near its summit is Laguna Caliente, an extremely acidic lake in a geyser-filled crater. The conical Arenal Volcano looms over the resort town of La Fortuna, which has many geothermal springs.
