North Region
North Brazil spans the states of Acre, Amapá, Amazonas, Pará, Rondônia, Roraima and Tocantins. The Amazon rainforest, famed for its biodiversity, covers most of the region. In Amazonas, the city of Manaus is on the banks of the Negro River and for several miles that river's dark water runs next to the light water of the Solimões River, in what is called the Meeting of the Waters. They then become the Amazon River.
